Ghana Prepares for 2024 Summit of the Future

In an effort to strengthen its commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Implementation Coordination Committee (ICC) through the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) is actively engaging stakeholders from 22-30 July 2024 to shape the country's position for the upcoming Summit of the Future later this year.
In an address at a consultative meeting with youth and children groups on Monday, July 222, 2024 in Accra, Mrs. Alice Amekudzi, Ag. Director of the Development Policy and Planning Division, NDPC stated that Ghana has made significant strides in implementing and reporting on the 2030 Agenda since its adoption in 2015. According to her, the country has involved key stakeholders, including the private sector and civil society organizations, in the process.
Our achievements in mainstreaming the goals into national frameworks, sub-national, and sector plans are noteworthy," said Mrs. Amekudzi "Effective monitoring of the 2030 Agenda is reflected in various reports we have developed, and our participation in UN platforms such as the High-Level Political Forums," she added.
According to the Ag. Director, Ghana is dedicated to contributing its perspectives, expertise, and innovative solutions to the Summit of the Future. "Our participation aligns with our national development aspirations and the broader vision for a sustainable and inclusive world," Mrs. Amekudzi said.
"Together, we can navigate the complex challenges of our time and build a sustainable and inclusive future for all," Mrs. Amekudzi added, urging all stakeholders to contribute to the process and help shape Ghana's position in the 2024 Summit of the Future.
The consultative meeting with youth groups is part of a broader effort by the ICC to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including women groups, academia civil society organizations, the private sector, development partners, and Persons with Disabilities, to solicit inputs and build consensus on Ghana's priorities and positions for the upcoming Summit.
The 2024 Summit of the Future, which will focus on how to cooperate better to deliver on the SDGs alongside all other international commitments, presents a vital opportunity for Ghana to contribute to shaping global governance and addressing interconnected challenges, such as climate change and technological advancements, within the framework of sustainable development.
